On February 2, SHC had announced the official cancellation of the 2020-21 season. The following week, the Government of Alberta modified Step One of its phased reopening to allow group sport activities with a maximum of 10 total individuals, including all coaches, trainers, and participants on ice. This allowed Hockey Alberta to adapt their "Hockey's Path Forward" to include the option of having 10 individuals on each half-ice surface. This week, the Town of Morinville voted to reopen the MLC and allow the use of their facility beginning February 23.
The SHC Executive met this week to discuss all of this new information but inevitably voted to uphold the decision to conclude the 2020-21 hockey season due the Town of Legal removing their ice surface for the season and the MLC’s decision to offer ice availability at reduced hours on Tuesday through Saturday from February 23rd - March 31st, 2021 only. Our Executive is currently working on finalizing this season’s financials in order to determine the amount of credits/refunds that members will be reimbursed for registration fees. Further communication in this regard will be provided at the end of February along with a breakdown of expenses the Association has incurred over the season. We ask for your patience as we work through this process. Please also watch for an email coming soon regarding equipment and jersey returns from our Equipment Director, Natallie Wiedemann.
The Executive recognizes that there are SHC families who still wish to see their kids get back on the ice this season. Therefore, the Board voted in favour of offering currently registered SHC players the option to participate in a development camp.
SHC Development Camp
Are your kids ready to hit the ice? Register for our development camp every Saturday from February 27 until March 27.
Division | # of ice slots (Saturdays) | Length of ice slots | Cost |
U7 and U9 | 5 | 45 mins | $60 |
U11, U13 and U15 | 5 | 1 hour | $80 |
All currently registered SHC players from U7-U15 are eligible to participate for 5 half-ice slots with up to 8 players and 2 coaches on each side . Interested participants will be required to register on RAMP by Sunday, February 14 by 8:00PM. Unfortunately due to the facility restrictions, spectators are not permitted and SHC members will be required to follow all facility guidelines set out by the MLC which will include players arriving fully dressed with skates on (unless players are fully independent at tying their own skates) and entering/exiting the building with coaches only (no parents/guardians will be allowed entry unless they are an on-ice coach).
Registration will be open on Friday, February 12th at 6:00pm on RAMP and close on Sunday, February 14th at 8:00pm. Limited spots available, additional registrations will be added to a waitlist.
Please note, SHC requires participants to register for this development camp separate from the 2020-21 season in order to properly process refunds/credits. Also, if a player chooses to withdraw from the development camp after February 14, 2021 or in the event that COVID-19 restrictions do not permit on-ice groups sports activities at any time during the development camp, your registration fee is non-refundable due to the ice and planning costs associated with running a development program. No exceptions.
