"STURGEON HOCKEY: A LEGACY OF COMMUNITY, SUCCESS, AND PRIDE"
The Sturgeon Hockey Club (SHC) has a proud and enduring history rooted in the passion for youth hockey. Originally founded in the early 1970’s as the Morinville Minor Hockey Association (MMHA), the organization began as a small, community-focused group dedicated to developing young players and their love for the game.
As the association grew, so did its programs, expanding to offer various levels of play and competition. In 2011, facing the challenge of declining player numbers, MMHA joined forces with the Legal Minor Hockey Association. This strategic amalgamation gave rise to the Sturgeon Hockey Club — a united effort to pool resources, strengthen development pathways, and ensure the long-term sustainability of minor hockey in the region.
Since then, SHC has evolved into a central hub for minor hockey across Morinville, Legal, and surrounding communities. As of 2025, the club proudly offers three streams of hockey:
The Sturgeon Hockey Club remains a vital institution, promoting community spirit, youth engagement, and a lifelong appreciation for the sport of hockey.
