New to Hockey?

We’re excited to help your family get started. Here's what you need to know for your first season with SHC!

Who Can Play?
Children as young as age 3 can join our Intro to Hockey program! SHC offers programs for ages U5 to U18.

What Equipment Do We Need?
Full hockey gear is required: helmet, skates, stick, pads, gloves, and a jersey.

When is the Season?
The season typically runs from September to March, with evaluations and team placements starting in early fall.

Do We Need Skating Experience?
No! Many players start with little or no skating experience. Our coaches and helpers focus on fun and skill-building at every level.

Step 1: Boundary Confirmation

Confirm you fall within the boundaries of Sturgeon Hockey Club (SHC):

Step 2: CREATE A SPORDLE ACCOUNT

For players that have never registered with a hockey association before 

1. Visit Spordle to sign up for a new account
2. Once you have created an account- click here to create a HCR number for your player(s)

Step 3: Respect in Sport

  • One parent/guardian must complete the Respect in Sport - Parent Program.
  • Course cost: $12.00 + GST; takes ~45 min to 1.5 hours.
  • RIS Certificate number required for registration.
  • If previously completed, simply add new child to profile

Step 4: Parent Declaration Form/proof of residency

Submit the Parent Declaration Form on the Hockey Alberta website.

  • For new to hockey and new to SHC players 

You will also be required to upload a copy of the following:

  • Proof of Residency / Current Utility Bill

IMPORTANT:
Enter registrar@sturgeonhockeyclub.com in the FORWARD SUBMISSION section of the form.

Step 5: HAVE BIRTH CERTIFICATE READY

As part of your registration, SHC now requires that you upload a copy of your child’s birth certificate to the TeamLinkt platform.

  • Acceptable format: clear photo or PDF scan
  • Upload is required for all players — even returning families
  • Files must be uploaded before registration is accepted

Step 6: ready to register

Once you have created a Spordle account, a HCR number,  completed Respect In Sport, and have  birth certificate(s) ready, you’re good to go!

to note:  for families who have Relocated to shc but HAVE Played in Another LMHA 

If your child has previously been registered with another Local Minor Hockey Association (LMHA), you must initiate a transfer to SHC:

  • Your previous association will need to submit a Player Movement Form through Hockey Alberta
  • Include your former LMHA and reason for relocation
  • Wait for confirmation of approval from our Registrar before registering
  • Email registrar@sturgeonhockeyclub.com for support or questions
