Dear Sturgeon Hockey Club Families,
We received the following update from the EFHL regarding the City of Edmonton Work Disruption.
Good afternoon EFHL Contacts,
We are not anticipating the job action scheduled to begin on Thursday March 14th, will have any impact to City of Edmonton arenas based on what we have been told by City of Edmonton and Hockey Edmonton staff. The Arena staff are members of a different union that remain under contract.
That being said, in these situations of job action, circumstances can change quickly so Carmen and the Ice Allocators from our associations outside Edmonton have put together some contingency planning. We want to thank associations who were able to provide some contingency ice if things do go sideways and impact our ability to complete playoff games. Carmen and the Area Allocators have already worked out a plan that has the possibility of moving the final 4 days of games outside the City of Edmonton if necessary. That would not be our choice, unless circumstance dictate, we need to do that to complete the playoffs.
Carmen has also been monitoring the City of Edmonton and Union websites to ensure we are aware of which Rec Centres job action will take place and at this time we do not believe any of the arenas are targeted, however, that may change.
We wanted to let you know that you have a very capable ice management team lead by Carmen and all the associations ice allocators and we will continue to plan and do everything within our power to ensure the EFHL Playoff are not impacted.
Please ensure you share this information with your players, parents, coaches, and spectators.
Thank you,
Chris March
EFHL Commissioner
