STING AA FEES BREAKDOWN 2024/2025STING AA FEES

What's included in tryout fee for U13/U15/U18AA:
  • minimum 3 tryout skates
  • first skate is skills, second and third are scrimmages
    • (U13 group is all scrimmages)
  • separate goalie evaluation skate (if coaches see it as needed)
  • releases will be made after third skate
  • released players can request a second tryout upon approval of the league (discuss with Sting director); otherwise if not doing second tryouts, you need to report back to your home association registrar for house league tryouts
  • Continuing players may play in a preseason tournament, releases may be made after each game
  • final rosters will be announced between third and fourth week in September (sometimes later for U18AA)
NB: If your home association is NOT Sturgeon Hockey Club, you MUST inform your registrar that you are trying out for a AA team outside your home club. Hockey Alberta has removed the need to fill out a "Notification to Tryout Form" for U13/U15/U18AA levels.
What's included in tryout fee for U11AA:
  • four skates total
  • first skate is skills/scrimmage, other three are scrimmages
  • releases will be made after final skate
  • cannot request a second tryout, must report back to home association registrar after release
  • final roster announced after final skate, usually mid-September
NB: If your home association is NOT Sturgeon Hockey club, you must fill out a "Notification to Tryout Form".  Form will be available via link when registrations open. This form applies to U11AA participants ONLY.

FAQ's:
Question: Can a U18 player be at two AA tryouts at the same time (example: U16AA & U18AA) or a AAA tryout and a AA tryout at the same time?
Answer: NO, Hockey Alberta asks that the higher level be attended first then proceed to next level if a release occurs. As directed, here is the process:
1. Begin any AAA tryouts first, if released then
2. U18AA tryouts, if released then proceed to a second tryout or go to:
3. U16AA (if age permits), if released then return to home association

Question: Do I tryout for my home association house tryouts at the same time as Sting AA tryouts?
Answer: NO, you must start with Sting AA tryouts first. Most times our AA tryouts start prior to house side anyway.  If a player is last cut from Sting, meaning they are likely fairly strong, they will likely be placed on a SHC top house team. If from an outside association, please contact your president &/or registrar for more details.

Question: What if my home association house side tryouts start and I am still in Sting tryouts?
Answer: You can only do one tryout at at time. The higher level tryout takes priority for players, you continue with Sting tryouts. Sting directors are in contact with our zone associations regarding who is currently attending our tryouts. If a release occurs, you are going to contact your home association for instructions.

Question: Do I have to pay for Sting AA tryout fees in advance if I am trying out for AAA elsewhere first?
Answer: NO, you don't pay both tryout fees at the same time, always start with the higher level first, so in this case AAA. Our Sting AA tryout fee is non refundable. We do ask that you let us know your intentions via email  (see below) so we can keep track of all potential player movement. If your player gets released from the AAA process, they simply report to a Sting Director as soon as possible after the release occurs and they will walk you through the next steps/tryout times/tryout fee payment etc., there are no late fees on the Sting AA tryout fee for anyone released from AAA.

Question:  When do late fees on tryout fees apply to me?
Answer: There are NO late fees associated to the Sting AA tryout fee, regardless which  home association you belong to.
Clarification:
1)If your home association is Sturgeon Hockey Club and you plan on trying out for AAA, you don't need to register or pay the AA fee now (no late fees with be enforced) but you must inform the registrar of your intent by email to: registrar@sturgeonhockeyclub.com.
2)If your home association is NOT Sturgeon Hockey Club, you do not have a deadline for AA tryout fee payments thus do not pay late fees but we appreciate receiving your registration by August.
